Robert CLEVIER - Biography

| French artist |
Born on 21 May 1952 in Quimper, Bretagne

In the 70s Robert spent most of its time in classes at les Beaux-Arts in Amsterdam and Berlin, yet he spent even more time exploring paintings in the museums of La Haye, Venice, Florence, Madrid. In 1980 he installed his artist studio in Paris, renounced to colors except on his erotic paints, and started to use ink only, then graphite.

Nevertheless, away from galleries and painters, he kept meeting poets as well as literary figures, and edited collaborative books: in 1994 Julien Green entrusted him to create the engravings of his poem Dyonisos, he then worked with Werner Lambersy (Front de taille, illuminated manuscript, 1995) and Eugene Guillevic (Dits de la jeune fille et de l’homme, 1996).

The most crucial encounter was with the philosopher Jean Guitton. They together pursued a long-lasting meditation on the images and their relationship with the language, while we are nowadays dominated by the digital image.

To remain independent on the art market, he then worked as a designer for some luxury brands.

1998 marked his return to paintings, followed by exhibitions such as Les Grandes heures de Saint-Emilion in 2003.

From 2007 to 2010, under the umbrella of his art dealer Galerie Pascaline Mulliez, his paintings were to be found in the catalogues of international art fairs such as Paris and Basel, along with Vieira da Silva, Eugene Leroy and George Grosz’.

Since June 2013, the company Flornoy&Associés exhibits some of his recent paintings in their Parisian head office located avenue de l’Opéra.

Some small format drawings are permanently exposed at Les Montparnos Gallery in Paris.
