Claude GARACHE

| French artist |
French painter, engraver and lithographer. Born January 20, 1930 in Paris.

School : post-abstraction. Recognized masters: Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, Henri Matisse, Paul Cézanne, Piet Mondrian.

  • 1948. Frequents the studios of Fernand Léger, André LHote.
  • 1955. Works for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios in California, USA.
  • 1959. Settles in Paris. Meets Alberto Giacometti
  • 1962. Theodore Shempp becomes his dealer. First exhibitions at Aimé Maeght, acclaimed by Chagall and Miro.
  • 1965. Works in etching. Sale of several oils to Joseph Hirshhorn (coll. Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Smithonian Institution, Washington, USA). Exhibition at Galerie Maeght, Paris.
  • 1972. Raoul Ubac sees his work as “working on the slow, progressive reconstitution of a single body”, a style that Dora Vallier declares “post-abstraite”.
